Never say no to travel!
So here I am in South Western France, close to a lot of places and with a bit more time on my hands. I love to travel and creating a new life does not limit that. In fact, it might make travel easier as I am closer to many of the places I want to go. I used to mostly travel to places where I would present papers or workshops, or attend those run by others; now I am returning to my youth, and the urge to travel that took me to France in 1980 (a trip that included working on the grape harvest in Southern France), and the US in 1981 (a trip that included working in a summer camp near Middeltown NY). Travel for the sake of travel. To learn. To see. To share.
So this little sub-blog is a travel blog old school. My pictures. My experiences. No marketing although mayb e some recommendations.
I’m starting with my current trip, and will add the blog posts from previous trips and future trips over time. My goal is to take you with me, to “make the strange familiar” while also inviting you into what make the place unique to me: the moments and experiences that I take home with me. I hope they are not strange to people from that place, but I expect even the people traveling with me will take home different things souvenir-moments to me. That is the fun of this.
Along the way I might interview other travelers and describe their experiences. I might also add some tips I have learned, from others or from my own mistakes.
CAVEAT: I am very aware of my privilege in these experiences, even moreso because I come from a country that colonized some of the places I have visited and have moved to one that colonized others. I am also aware that I will misunderstand, misrepresent, and miss key details, just as I do in France and the US where I am also a foreigner (and now, also, in the new UK that I left when it was still called “Great Britain” in 1984). There is a comment space at the end of each post. Please correct me or expand on my comments as appropriate. Or add your own experiences!
